Maria Milan
"I love to create luminous magic."
%20copy.jpg)
Maria is an artist and interior designer by trade. She uses a galaxy of materials including natural stones including onyx and marble, semi - precious stones and brass to create other worldly sculptural lights and objects that have inherent grounding and energetic properties, bringing life to each piece.
She lives by the ocean and draws inspiration from her natural surroundings and her biggest inspiration, her daughter.
Her latest wall lights or “Wall Jewellery,” previously custom pieces for private Interior Design clients are now available online to purchase. The first release in the collection is the “Moon Light” adorned with a little piece of mother nature, quartzite and brass.
Apart from her extensive Interior architectural design work, Maria lives and breathes in the world of light and imagination-quite literally through her luminous creations.
Immersed in the world of art and design from an early age, Maria has been inspired by her artist mother and engineer father to explore the intersection of the beauty of art and its functional possibilities.
Maria brings a wide-ranging education and background across the spectrum of visual mediums to her designs. Studying and exhibiting with many visual art forms throughout High School having been awarded an Academic Art Scholarship, Maria is an inspired artist at heart, and with a Bachelor of Built Environment, majoring in Interior Design with Distinction, Maria is a Senior Interior Designer and Project Manager by trade. Maria has extensive Interior Design experience for both boutique high end studios and large Architectural firms. She has also studied and worked in theatre and television set design and the fantasy world of costume and makeup artistry and has had a taste of jewellery design.
Whilst working on private Interior Design projects Maria focuses on Sustainable Design and has created a range of wall sconce lights and sculptural standing lights. Maria has an affinity with natural materials and has carefully selected natural stones to use for her light pieces. They are hand made in Australia using natural stone from design projects and sculpted brass. These gorgeous lights or "Wall Jewellery," are adorned with little pieces of Mother Nature to create beautiful otherworldly lights bringing grounding, healing and energetic enhancing properties inherent in natural stone. The "Moon Light"and "Harmony Light" are two of her current made to order pieces.
Maria also loves to work and explore with different mediums and collaborate with other creative people to create "magic." Her most recent collaboration, a photo shoot with photographer Laura Goodall, created just that. Uniquely balancing the juxtaposition of the hard, rigid neon structure and the warm dynamic human form along with the wild nature of the ocean as a backdrop immersed in the stunning early morning winter light created "luminous magic."
